Obituary: Leonard Wayne Strefling

Leonard Wayne Strefling, 73, of Lawrence, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in Lawrence. He was born on December 13, 1950 in Watervliet, Michigan, to William Strefling and Lena (Geik) Strefling.

Leonard worked as a teacher in the Lawrence Public Schools for 31 years. He had a tremendous impact on his students and colleagues. He coached all sports for Lawrence. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving as an assistant coach during the 1997 football season when Lawrence won the state championship.

In his free time, he enjoyed singing often. Music was a huge part of his life and brought him countless hours of joy. However, Leonard was happiest when he was spending time with his family at their beloved home on Reynolds Lake. He loved the beauty of living on a lake and it was the perfect place to host family and friends gatherings.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Teri (Sisson) Strefling; his beloved daughters, Amy Strefling and Abby (John) Garey; his only grandchild, whom he adored, Nathaniel Garey; two brothers, Rudy (Barbara) Strefling and Steve (Patti) Strefling; a sister, Jane (Ron) Buckhout and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Irma Tursi, Donald Strefling, Harold Strefling and Billy Strefling.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 9th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw.

Leonard’s family will hold a private memorial service in his memory. He will be buried at Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw, Lawrence Alumni Association or Centrica Care Navigators Hospice.
