Obituary: Price, Michael D.

Michael D. Price passed away on August 25, 2024 in Parkersburg, WV, at the age of 48. He was born on June 28, 1976 to Don and Brinda Price and lived in Washington, WV.

Mike graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1995. After graduating, he worked for over two decades as an associate at Walmart in Vienna, WV. His dedication to his work was evident in the lasting relationships he built with both co-workers and customers, and his gentle demeanor made him a favorite of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mike was an avid chess player from a young age, a strategic thinker who found comfort and joy in the structure and complexity of the game. His love of chess led him to become an active member of the Wood County Chess Club and the United States Chess Federation, where he not only honed his skills but also made lasting friendships.

Mike’s love for animals was evident in the care and affection he showed to his beloved dogs, who were a constant source of joy in his life. His interests also included playing vintage video games, shopping for books and collectibles at flea markets, and watching various sports.

He leaves behind his loving parents, Don and Brinda Price, his sisters April and Natalie Price, and his nephew Corbin Snider. Those who knew Mike would describe him as a gentle soul, a man whose kindness and quiet strength were a comfort to all. In the months before his death, he found peace by rededicating his life to God. His life was a testament to the beauty of a humble spirit in a hectic world and a reminder to all of us to find contentment in the simple things in life.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, West Virginia, with the Reverend David Carpenter officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

The viewing will take place on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to the West Virginia Chess Association, 444 Ashberry Drive, Flemington, WV 26347.
