CDOT: How to drive safely through a road construction site

Be patient and drive carefully when driving through a construction zone, advises the Colorado Department of Transportation.

COSHOCTON – Road work on Ohio 16 through Coshocton County is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving, according to Morgan Eibel, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The complete replacement of Ohio 16 from Spitler Drive to the Muskingum County line was announced for spring 2022. The estimated project cost is $20.9 million.

Work has been done in sections. Currently, crews are paving the road from County Road 6 to Spitler Drive. The inside passing lanes have been completed and the outside lanes are being completed. There are lane restrictions in place, but traffic will be maintained in this area.

“I’m sure people are happy that we have reached the point with this project where we can maintain traffic. Before this year, of course, we only had to maintain one direction of traffic and the other had to be diverted, which was very annoying for drivers,” Eibel said.

She said once the reconstruction is complete, the surface will be paved and final markings will be installed. This will be done from Spitler Drive to Ohio 83. Such work from Ohio 83 to the Muskingum County line has already been done.

Other ODOT projects in Coshocton County

In addition, ODOT is paving Ohio 83 from the Muskingum County line to Ohio 16 and is performing chipping and sealing work on Ohio 657 in Licking County, with an extension into Coshocton County on Ohio 79 from the Licking County line to the southern municipal line of the Village of Nellie.

According to Eibel, ODOT plans to replace guardrails on Ohio 83 from the Holmes County line to U.S. 36 in 2025, seal and waterproof Ohio 93 from the Muskingum County line to the Guernsey County line and Ohio 541 from the Guernsey County line to Interstate 77 in 2025. Also planned for next year are the installation of new flood control pipes near Ohio 16 at Township Road 483C, replacement of a culvert on Ohio 751, just south of Township Road 248, and maintenance of a culvert on Ohio 60, south of County Road 82.
