Officers seize stolen vehicle and arrest suspect in attempted credit card fraud case

BRYAN’S ROAD, Maryland. – On August 15 at 8:54 a.m., officers responded to a call to a gas station/convenience store in the 6900 block of Indian Head Highway at Bryans Road, MD, regarding a fraud attempt that had just occurred. The caller reported that someone had attempted to use his debit card, which had been stolen along with his vehicle that morning.

Officers reviewed camera footage and determined that a woman attempted to make a purchase using the stolen card and then fled in the stolen vehicle, a red Nissan Kicks. Officers were given a photograph of the woman. Upon further investigation, officers identified the driver of the stolen car as James Keith Hare, age 36, of Bryans Road. The woman was identified as Giavonnie Shardonnay Johnson, age 27, of Bryans Road.

Officers checked locations where the two suspects frequented and observed them nearby. The suspects were arrested and the victim’s debit card was recovered. Hare was charged with theft and held without bail.

Johnson was charged with theft, criminal damage, assault and attempted theft with a stolen debit card. On August 15, Johnson was released from the Charles County Detention Center on an honorable recognizance by a District Court Commissioner. Officers Giroux and Thomson are investigating.
