Officials seized historic drugs and cash in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two separate seizures of drugs and cash in central Ohio are believed to be the largest seizures in state history, according to Ohio authorities.

Attorney General Dave Yost said agents from the Central Ohio OOCIC/HIDTA Major Drug Interdiction Task Force and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers made the seizures on August 3 and 6.

On August 3, task force agents and police officers stopped a commercial vehicle on I-70 in Madison County. Officers found 300 pounds of methamphetamine, 17.6 pounds of cocaine and 30 pounds of marijuana. The street value of all the contraband was $14.6 million, according to Yost.

On August 6, officers stopped a commercial vehicle suspected of being involved in drug trafficking on I-70 in Clark County and seized over $935,000 in cash.

By comparison, OOCIC’s major drug task forces seized a total of just 349 pounds of meth and nearly $5.5 million in cash in 2023.

“Drug dealers seeking to wreak havoc in Central Ohio should watch out – our task force and our partners are watching,” Yost said. “Kudos to our task force officers who have worked to remove these dangerous drugs and ill-gotten gains from our highways.”
