Officials talk about the state of the city

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Lawton city officials updated community leaders and citizens on the progress made to date during their annual State of the City address on Friday, August 16.

Through work being done on streets, parks and other areas of the city, city leaders provided insights into the city’s current situation as it moves toward the future.

7News had the opportunity to speak with Lawton City Manager John Ratliff during the event, who said it is an exciting time to live in Lawton.

“I think it’s a really exciting time to be in Lawton,” Ratliff said. “We’re improving the roads, the water, the sewers, the infrastructure everywhere, we’re investing a lot of time and resources in our parks, we’re attracting businesses. In my opinion, the arrow is pointing upward.”

Ratliff says they have come a long way because they have developed an action plan to tackle the projects citizens want.

“I think the biggest difference is that the last time the city was stateside, we knew we wanted to improve,” Ratliff said. “We just didn’t have a set plan for how we were going to get there. So now you’re actually seeing some very limited and concrete actions where in the past we knew we needed to improve.”

For those who believe the city needs to do more, Ratliff advises them to get involved, either in the community or on one of the many committees.
