The new Lenexa Justice Center will house a police station, a municipal court and a community space.

Police Chief Dawn Layman told KSHB 41 police that their aging building had become too small.

As Lenexa continues to expand westward, the station will be more centrally located by moving from 87th Street and Quivira to Prairie Star Parkway and Renner.

“It’s a beautiful complex. And I really think it’s a shining star for the community,” Layman said. “… We were on the easternmost edge of the city and now we’re really in the middle of the city.”

The new building also offers new facilities such as an in-house police training facility, a training room and rest rooms for officers.

“We spend a lot of time here,” she said. “Our staff and our officers see a lot of things that no one should really see. So having the opportunity to relax after a difficult operation is really important and that’s really important for the continued care of the officers and staff.”

Lenexa authorities have closed the old building.

If you need to visit the police or the district court from now on, you will do so in the new building.
