Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast, August 27, 2024 – Ohio Ag Net

Very hot and very muggy today. Heat indices will be in the 100 to 108 range this afternoon. This will be one of the hottest (feels like) days of 2024, and we should see some thunderstorms this afternoon due to heat-related instability. We may also see these types of heat-related thunderstorms tomorrow and Thursday, although the heat will ease up a bit on those days. A frontal boundary will move through Friday, especially late in the day, bringing another moisture threat. All in all, we should see 0.25 to 1.5 inches across about 80% of the state between now and the end of Friday. That means we’ll have some gaps. Daily coverage will max out at 60%. The map below shows the combined potential for the week through Friday night.

Things will get drier again after the front passes late Friday. Humidity will drop over Labor Day weekend and into next week. Temperatures will also drop, returning to near-normal levels after this week’s heat. All in all, this makes for a fairly pleasant holiday weekend and the first half of next week. However, it also means we’ll need the moisture we get this week to keep us afloat and last all through next week… which means it won’t be enough. The next downpour probably won’t develop until late next week or over the weekend. Next week’s main area of precipitation will be from central Kentucky southward, with no signs of clearing northward.
