DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office says an Ohio man has been charged with multiple charges after officials investigated a report of sexual abuse of a minor.
Robert Michael Urban III, 35, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, is accused of sexual abuse of a minor between the ages of 11 and 14, criminal solicitation of sexual assault of a minor, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and distribution of obscene material to a minor.
Urban is accused of traveling from Ohio to Summerville in July to perform sexual acts with a 12-year-old girl, sheriff’s office spokesman Rick Carson said.
Urban met the girl in a forest and tried to sexually harass her, the arrest warrants say.
The victim’s family notified Criminal Investigation Department, and after an extensive investigation and a trip to Ohio, a search warrant was executed on Urban’s home with the assistance of officers from the Reynoldsburg Police Department.
During the search, officers found videos that had been sent to the victim that showed him performing sexual acts with other people. They also found evidence of text messages and video calls in which Urban solicited the victim to perform sexual acts, the warrants state.
Urban was arrested and waived extradition to Dorchester County.
He was placed at the LC Knight Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
The First Judicial Circuit Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
Carson said the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation is still ongoing.
