Ohio prosecutor allegedly bit off the middle finger of a driver who honked at him

DAYTON, Ohio (WKRC) – An Ohio prosecutor has been fired and is under investigation after he allegedly bit off a driver’s finger for honking at him.

Riverside police responded to a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. on June 30 reporting a “brawl in progress” on a freeway overpass.

The arrest report stated: “The dispatch center reported that a caller said there was a lot of blood and a finger had been bitten off.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed a man standing next to his car covered in blood. They called 911 when they noticed that his “finger had been bitten off.” The finger was reportedly bitten off at the first joint from the fingertip.

The 43-year-old victim told police that the car in front of him didn’t move when the light turned green, so he “honked the horn.” The driver of the stopped car approached the victim’s window and said he wanted to fight.

The victim said his car’s windows wouldn’t roll down, so he started opening the car door to talk to the driver. At that point, “the driver ripped (the victim’s door) open and started struggling.”

During the altercation, the victim said he managed to climb on top of the driver, who allegedly bit off his finger.

The attacking driver quickly jumped into his car and drove away shortly after, but dropped his phone on the ground. The police found the phone and seized it as evidence.

Riverside police identified the suspect as Christopher Murray, a former Greene County assistant prosecutor. They said Murray has not yet been arrested because his case is pending before a grand jury.

Greene County District Attorney David D. Hayes said he was not informed of the allegations against Murray until July 8. Once informed, he acted immediately.

“Murray has been on leave from his position as Assistant Prosecutor of Greene County since July 9, 2024,” Hayes wrote in an email. “As of July 9, 2024, he is no longer serving in office or representing any office in court.”

“After careful consideration, I have terminated Christopher Murray’s employment with the Greene County District Attorney’s Office.”
