Ohio State and Oregon dominate the 2025 Big Ten football recruiting cycle (so far)

Football season is just around the corner and fall camps are already underway across the country.

This coincides with a one-month pause in hiring and gives analysts a chance to collectively take a breather and take a look at the results so far.

Although the December early signing period is still months away, 22 of the country’s 30 most promising prospects have already announced their college commitments, leaving many of the country’s most promising players out of the picture.

In the Big Ten, the 2025 recruiting cycle revolved around the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks, who combined to account for seven of the conference’s eight five-star commitments and nine of the conference’s top 10 commits to date.

Currently, Ohio State’s class is ranked No. 1 nationally, while Oregon is ranked No. 7.

However, with only 15 commitments in their class, the Ducks rank first in the national “Rating per Commitment” (94.38) at 247Sports and still have significant room for improvement.

The next teams? Penn State at number 14 with 23 commitments and Michigan at number 15 with 15 pledges.

Here’s a look at the top 10 commitments in the Big Ten Conference so far:

Just missed the top 10: 4-star WR Quincy Porter, Bergen Catholic (New Jersey) Ohio State; 4-star DL Nathaniel Marshall, Fenwick (Illinois) — Michigan Wolverines; 4-star LB Tarvos Alford, Vero Beach (Florida) — Ohio State Buckeyes; 4-star OL Carter Lowe, Whitmer (Ohio) — Ohio State Buckeyes; 4 star S Ivan Taylor, West Orange (Florida) — Michigan Wolverines

10. 4-star CB Dorian Brew, Conroe (Texas) — Oregon Ducks

Dorian Brew is listed as the number 36 national junior prospect and just misses five-star status.

The 6’0″ and 200-pound defensive back made one of the most surprising commitments of the 2025 cycle when he chose Oregon over Ohio State – even though most recruiting services had the Buckeyes as the clear favorite until hours before his commitment.

Brew, the fifth-best cornerback in the country, is an important part of Oregon’s historic crop of defensive backs in this class (more on that later).

9. 4-star S Faheem Delane, Our Lady of Good Counsel (Maryland) — Ohio State Buckeyes

Like Brew, Faheem Delane is a coveted defensive back who just missed five-star status.

Considered the second-best safety in the country, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete is ranked 35th nationally, one spot ahead of Brew.

He committed to Ohio State in June, choosing the Buckeyes over LSU, Oregon and others.

8. 5-star linebacker Riley Pettijohn, McKinney (Texas) — Ohio State Buckeyes

The final eight additions on this list are five-star talents, which is a good sign for the Big Ten overall, as the ACC (1) and Big 12 (1) combined have only two of them.

Riley Pettijohn committed to Ohio State early last month, choosing the Buckeyes over Texas, Texas A&M, USC and others.

He is considered the third best linebacker in the country and ranks 29th overall.

7. 5-star S Trey McNutt, Shaker Heights (Ohio) — Oregon Ducks

The newest addition to the list, Trey McNutt, chose Oregon over Texas A&M last week, ending an intense recruiting battle.

McNutt, the No. 1 safety in the country, is Oregon’s first five-star safety recruit and the highest-rated defensive back in program history.

The 1.83 m tall and 82 kg heavy athlete is considered the number 19 national junior hopeful.

6. 5-Star WR Dallas Wilson, Tampa Bay Tech (Florida) – Oregon Ducks

Dallas Wilson first committed to Oregon in January 2023.

Since then, his stocks have only continued to rise, and rumors that he might change his stance at some point have increased.

Wilson is considered the No. 17 national prospect and No. 3 receiver. He has repeatedly stressed that he is in “good hands” at Oregon – and even made a video in which he expresses how much he loves being a Duck.

Nevertheless, rumors about the cross-country player’s signing will likely persist until he signs his contract.

Wilson is one of two five-star pass catchers for Oregon, giving Dan Lanning’s team the best receiver duo in program history.

5. 5-star QB Julian Lewis, Carrollton (Georgia) — USC Trojans

Julian Lewis was once considered the country’s most promising young player in the 2026 class. After a reclassification in 2025, he suffered a slight drop in his rating (15th overall, 3rd as a quarterback).

That’s to be expected considering he’s now ranked against players a year older.

But the talent is obvious.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound playmaker has been committed to USC since last August, but has continued to visit and build relationships with several programs, most notably the Colorado Buffaloes.

Rumor has it that USC is also interested in other quarterbacks.

Could Lewis change his mind at the end or will he stay true to Lincoln Riley’s program?

This is certainly something to watch closely and will be one of the key talking points in the recruitment industry this fall.

4. 5-star QB Tavien St. Clair, Bellefontaine (Ohio) — Ohio State Buckeyes

In the overall rankings, Tavien St. Clair is ranked as the number 9 national junior hopeful, but according to 247Sports he is only in 2nd place in the overall rankings.

In truth, this is pure hair-splitting.

No matter how you look at it, Ohio State has signed arguably the best quarterback in the country in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

St. Clair, an in-state recruit, also had offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

3. 5-star CB Na’eem Offord, Parker (Alabama) — Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State hopes to retain a historic cornerback duo in the 2025 class, with Offord being the first of the two.

The 6’1″, 185kg athlete is considered the seventh best young player in the country and the second best cornerback and is still being heavily courted by Auburn, Oregon and others.

But as it stands, he’s arguably part of the best one-two punch in modern recruiting history.

2. 5-star CB Devin Sanchez, North shore (Texas) — Ohio State Buckeyes

Devin Sanchez, the country’s No. 1 cornerback, is considered the No. 5 prospect for the class of 2025.

The 6’2″ and 175lb athlete has all the tools to become a future first-round NFL draft pick as he develops into the prototype of a modern outside corner.

Sanchez, Offord and St. Clair are, on paper, undoubtedly the best trio of new recruits for any program in the country.

While Alabama has more five-star talent than Ohio State, the Crimson Tide have no claim to a top-10 spot.

Ohio State has three.

It’s an impressive trio that Ryan Day and his program would like to keep together and make into the cornerstone of the Buckeyes’ future team.

1. 5-star WR Dakorien Moore, Duncanville (Texas) — Oregon Ducks

Depending on the final rankings, Dakorien Moore could go down as the highest-rated commitment in Oregon program history.

The best wide receiver and third-best young player in the country received more than 30 scholarship offers during his recruiting phase.

On July 4, Moore chose Oregon over LSU, Ohio State and Texas.

Oregon, which currently has the highest “per-signing rating” in the country, is ranked No. 7 in the country but still has plenty of room — and interest — to climb into the top three before Signing Day.

Still, it’s unlikely anyone can unseat Moore as the class leader.

He is something special – and could make the crucial difference for Oregon in the state of Texas.
