The Ohio State Buckeyes couldn’t be more excited about the future of freshman quarterback Julian Sayin. When he decided to transfer from Alabama to Ohio State, it was clear that the Buckeyes got their quarterback of the future.
Sayin has outstanding throwing ability and a top-notch football IQ. He has the work ethic to back both up.
With the 2024 season just around the corner, one quote from head coach Ryan Day is notable. He is very impressed with the young signal caller and it sounds like he would be open to the idea of using him early.
“He’s been unbelievable. I mean, he’s got a good plan when he goes out there. He doesn’t want to be held by the hand. I’m impressed with his approach. And like I said, he’s got a really, really bright future. I mean, how fast he is on the field kind of depends on him.”
Apparently he impressed the coaching team early on.
Right now, it looks like Will Howard will earn the starting job to open the 2024 season. Devin Brown appears to be No. 2 on the list. Sayin sits behind those two players.
However, there is a chance he could get some playing time this year. If Howard were to enter the season, he could compete directly with Brown.
While Brown is a talented player, Sayin’s arm is better. The only question would be his age and understanding of the offense. Ohio State has a very complex offense, but Day will use the player who gives him the best chance to win.
This isn’t a prediction that Sayin will play this season, but it’s a possibility. The Buckeyes will do whatever it takes to win. Sayin could factor into that equation at some point.
Expect to continue to hear positive news about Sayin as the season progresses. He has developed quickly and that should continue in the future.
