Ohio State Buckeyes have major recruiting problems in critical area

The Ohio State Buckeyes are typically known for landing elite recruits, with many even believing they have the most talented roster in the country through 2024, and they can certainly lay claim to having the best recruiting class in 2025 as well.

However, that doesn’t mean Ohio State is perfect.

For some reason, the Buckeyes have trouble signing top offensive linemen. This was evident again on Saturday when David Sanders Jr. — the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackle — chose Tennessee over Ohio State.

Bucknuts’ JBook pointed this out on social media, noting that Ohio State has been fairly consistent in failing to sign quality offensive linemen since Justin Frye took over as offensive coordinator in 2022.

Frye has faced criticism in the past for his recruiting skills, but now the voices are getting louder.

Even legendary Buckeyes quarterback Troy Smith – winner of the 2006 Heisman Trophy – joined in criticizing Ohio State’s difficulties in fielding a truly top-notch offensive line.

Smith’s solution? First, focus on potential customers within the state.

Of course, every single school in the country has areas where it falls short. Ohio State is no exception and certainly not the only one.

However, the Buckeyes’ offensive line play has been a problem for several seasons, and there is no improvement in sight.

We know Ohio State produces great wide receivers and defensive players, but now imagine if the Buckeyes could actually put together a great offensive line?

Ohio State is seeking its first national championship in ten years. The regular season begins on August 31 with a game against Akron.
