Ohio State Buckeyes rookie Jeremiah Smith receives lukewarm forecast

The Ohio State Buckeyes couldn’t be more excited to have freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith take the field for his college football debut this weekend.

Smith could potentially be the next big star at the wide receiver position for Wide Receiver U.

He is expected to play a big role for the Buckeyes from the start. Together with Emeka Egbuka, he is expected to form an elite duo for quarterback Will Howard.

It will be interesting to see how his first year unfolds.

Having said that, RotoWire has released its prediction for him in 2024. It’s not a mind-blowing forecast, but it’s more than solid.

They have given him 47 passes for 695 yards and six touchdowns. These numbers average an impressive 14.8 yards per pass.

Of course, fans would like to see him start with 75 catches and 1,000 yards right from the start. But those are insane expectations for a rookie.

That’s not to say Smith can’t put up those numbers. He has the potential to be an instant superstar for the Buckeyes.

A lot of his numbers will depend on how good Howard really is. There are still a lot of questions about Howard and whether he can be a quarterback that drives the offense to peak performance. If he becomes an elite quarterback this year, Smith’s numbers should be higher than the above projections.

Only time will tell, but these numbers seem to be a very good foundation for Smith. Hopefully we will look back and laugh that these numbers were low.

Ohio State will see Smith for the first time on Saturday in the season opener against the Akron Zips.
