Ohio State Buckeyes WR Jeremiah Smith talks about his main focus

Jeremiah Smith is expected to be a major contributor for the Ohio State Buckeyes in his freshman season in 2024.

The former five-star recruit is widely expected to be the next great wide receiver from the “Wide Receiver U.” As soon as he started training with the Buckeyes, he showed why he was so highly praised right out of high school.

Smith is 6’3″ and 215 lbs. He has a tremendous skill set. He can run routes at the highest level, is a top-tier athlete and has a great head on his shoulders.

Despite the overwhelming hype and expectations, Smith spoke openly about it and revealed what he is focused on in the 2024 season. He is obviously well grounded and does not put too much pressure on himself.

“I know the expectations are high because I’m the best player in the country and there’s a lot of hype around me. So I try to block all that out and focus on the basics, the team, our receiver room and the locker room. And then the first game comes and if I don’t exceed the expectations you have of me, I don’t really care. I just want to go out there and win the game.”

Hearing that should be music to the ears of Ohio State fans. Smith just wants to win football games. He doesn’t need to put up crazy numbers as a freshman.

One3 has drawn a striking comparison for Smith. They believe he is a similar player to former NFL superstar Larry Fitzgerald.

“Jeremiah Smith is a big, highly talented wide receiver who reminds us of Larry Fitzgerald. His size, athleticism and overall skills bear a strong resemblance. Smith’s technical skills – namely his route running, strong hands and top-notch tracking – remind us of Fitzgerald. Both are also similar in terms of size and build. They are around 6’3″ with good length and are able to carry over 200 pounds.”

Ryan Day has done a great job of recruiting top talent but also making sure they can handle pressure. Smith is just another player in a line of talented athletes who were ready for such a big stage.

Still, it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Smith can have as a freshman. He should play a very big role and with composure and maturity, he should be able to live up to the hype and have a very successful first season of college football.
