Ohio State Champion Bella Pfeil will jump on Florida’s Gulf Coast this fall (2024)

Ohio State Champion in Diving Bella Arrow is on his way to Fort Myers to compete for Florida Gulf Coast University this fall.

Pfeil jumped for Avon Lake High School and made history last season by becoming the first athlete from Lorain County to win a state diving championship. She won the 1-meter diving competition at the OHSAA state championship in February, scoring 454.35 points in her 11 dives.

Just one week before the state championships, Pfeil achieved her highest result to date on the 1-meter springboard (11 jumps), collecting 471.35 points and taking first place at the district championships.

Pfeil competed in the Ohio State Championships three times during her high school career, placing 9th (390.70) in 2023 and 16th (387.05) in 2022. She trains year-round with the Berea-Midpark Diving Club.

Pfeil has been diving for six years, and prior to that she was a gymnast for six years. After finishing her diving career in high school, she was close to deciding not to dive in college and instead just focus on her studies before ultimately deciding to dive at FGCU.

Best results

  • 1 meter (11 dives): 471.35

FGCU is a Division I mid-major program that competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Last season, the women’s team finished 3rd out of 10 schools at the ASUN Championships. To finish in the top three at the championships in diving, 255.00 points were needed for the 1-meter event (6 jumps) and 269.40 points for the 3-meter event (6 jumps).

The most successful diver of the FGCU at the ASUN Championships on the 1-meter board was Isabeau Keenewho scored 249.35 points on her six jumps. In previous competitions, Pfeil scored 293.90 points on six jumps, putting her in a strong position to become one of FGCU’s top jumpers and one of the highest scoring jumpers at conference championships.

Other members of the class of 2028 who will be joining Pfeil in Fort Myers in the fall are Emily McMahan, Audrey Sambrook, Izzy Ackley And Cassie Bauer.
