Ohio State football is a breeding ground for high-profile transfers and five-star recruits, which has played a big part in making the Buckeyes a consistent CFP contender.

While the Buckeyes were ranked No. 2 in the AP preseason poll, they didn’t get much praise in ESPN’s latest rankings of college football players. Although Ohio State has numerous players in the rankings, it was missing a single top-10 player.

Caleb Downs was the first Buckeye player whose name appeared. He was ranked as the 11th best player in college football. Emeka Egbuka came in at 28th, Jack Sawyer at 33rd and Quinshon Judkins at 34th.

Now, there were plenty of others in the top 100 who will compete for the Scarlet and Gray next season, but the fact that there isn’t a single Buckeye in the top 10 is relatively surprising.

Although it’s difficult to justify his placement, Jeremiah Smith, the top recruit in the class of 2024, did not make the list. Eight Buckeyes were mentioned.

It was an even split, with four players on the defensive side of the ball and four on the offensive side.
