Ohio Valley Mall hosts Tools for Teachers event to prepare for new school year

Ohio Valley teachers were recognized Thursday with a “Tools for Teachers” event at the Ohio Valley Mall.

In addition, the teachers could look forward to the coming school year.

The mall’s courtyard has been transformed into a center for educational activities, with stalls full of supplies, materials and innovative teaching aids.

“It’s extremely helpful,” said Morgan Bayes, a teacher at Wheeling Park High School. “Knowing that there are people out there who appreciate what we do and give us a little something extra for our classrooms is very helpful.”

In addition to the wealth of free resources, the event featured an educational seminar on “Teach the Teacher.”

“The goal is to show these teachers when they return to the classroom that they have everything they need to get kids excited about science,” said STEM educator Jason Lindsey. “We want students to experience science outside of the classroom as well.”

More than 250 teachers have registered for the event.

In addition to the material support, the event also promoted a sense of community among the educators. The teachers had the opportunity to network with each other, exchange ideas and share experiences.

“It’s extremely helpful,” said Brooke Ferrel, a teacher at Skyvue Elementary School. “As teachers, we have to spend all our money and raise money for our classrooms, so for the mall to do this is a great event. I’ve been coming here for five years or more, and every year it gets better.”
