Ohio woman ate cat in front of others after killing it, police say

A woman in Ohio was arrested after police say she trampled a cat to death and ate it in front of several people.

A 27-year-old woman was charged with animal cruelty on Wednesday, according to Stark County court records.

Canton police arrested the woman on August 16 after she allegedly killed and ate a cat in a “residential area in full view of several people,” according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY.

During an arraignment on Monday, the suspects’ bail was set at $100,000, WKYC reported. Their next hearing is scheduled for Friday, according to court records.

USA TODAY was unable to reach the woman’s defense attorney on Thursday.

Complaint from a woman who “killed a cat”

On the day of the incident, Canton police officers responded to the scene after receiving a complaint about a woman who had “killed and eaten a cat,” according to an investigative report. When officers arrived, they saw a woman with her hands on a cat “whose head appeared to have been bashed in,” the report continued.

Blood was observed on the woman’s feet and hands, and her lips were covered in fur, the report said.

After officers took the woman to the Stark County Jail, they “secured the cat as evidence,” police said.

It is unclear who the cat belonged to.
