Hunting dates for the spring 2025 turkey hunting season in Ohio have been proposed to the Ohio Wildlife Council.

Anyone wishing to comment on these proposed new dates can do so online at wildohio.gov through September 25, according to a press release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The 2025 youth spring wild turkey hunt is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of April 12 and 13.

In Ohio’s five northeastern counties – Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull – the 2025 regular spring turkey season could be May 3 to June 1.

Hunters in Ohio’s remaining 83 counties can expect the regular spring 2025 turkey hunting season to run from April 19 to May 18.

Ohio’s wild turkeys divided into two hunting zones

It is common practice to divide wild turkeys in the Buckeye State into two distinct population zones during the spring.

“The spring turkey season in Ohio is divided into two zones to align with turkey breeding seasons in those regions,” the ODNR said in a press release.

Turkey activity in the two zones could vary by up to two weeks.

“The opening date for the South Zone is annually the Saturday closest to April 21st, and for the Northeast Zone the Saturday closest to May 1st,” the press release states.

The Ohio Wildlife Council, an eight-member body that approves all rules and regulations of the ODNR Division of Wildlife, is scheduled to meet Oct. 30 to vote on spring turkey hunting dates and other updates to the state’s hunting and fishing regulations.

Minimum length requirements for some fish may be adjusted

The council will also consider proposals to amend site-specific minimum length regulations for walleye, pikeperch and sucker carp in several inland lakes, the press release said.

The state may waive the 15-inch minimum length requirement for walleye, walleye and saugeye in the following locations: Acton Lake, Alum Creek Lake, Atwood Lake, Buckeye Lake, Caesar Creek Lake, Ferguson Reservoir, Findlay Reservoir 1, Findlay Reservoir 2, Indian Lake, Metzger Reservoir, Piedmont Lake, Pleasant Hill Lake, Rocky Fork Lake, Seneca Lake and Tappan Lake.

“If approved, there would be no minimum length requirement for walleye, pikeperch and suckereye in these waters,” the press release states.

To better protect fish populations, a 15-inch minimum length requirement for walleye, walleye and suckereye could be introduced in Mosquito Creek Lake and LaDue Reservoir.
