CONSTABLEVILLE — The Flywheels & Pulleys Club is hosting the 49th annual Old Time Gas Engines, Tractors and Truck Show. The three-day event, featuring demonstrations of antique power and lost arts such as pull sawing and blacksmithing, will be held Friday, Sept. 6, through Sunday, Sept. 8, at the club’s grounds on Route 26.
This year’s event begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday with a flag raising ceremony to kick off the living history weekend, followed by a fish supper and auction. Anyone wishing to donate auction items can contact Olga and John Miller at 315-348-6781.
On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. and a horizontal grease stick contest at 11 a.m. A chicken barbecue will begin at noon and a tractor pull for “Big Guys” will begin at 2 p.m. The Country Cloggers will perform from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Festivalgoers can take part in a watermelon eating contest at 3 p.m. and “Women’s Cross-Cut Fun” at 4:30 p.m. There will also be chainsaw carving demonstrations and a blacksmith at work on the grounds. The evening will conclude with a country dance from 8 to 11 p.m.
After more pancakes and worship on Sunday morning, women will compete in cast iron skillet tossing at 9 a.m., and children ages 5 to 13 will take their turn in tractor pulling starting at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
In the afternoon there will be another chicken barbecue, a garden tractor pull and three-legged race (both start at 11am), a sawdust hunt for the little ones at 1pm, a beard competition judging at 2pm and a raffle drawing at 3pm.
There will be a flea market and craft show during the three-day event. Primitive camping and RVs are welcome for a $5 per day fee. Restrooms and showers will be available. Vendors and campers must register and pay in advance. All flea market vendors, artisans and campers must register and pay in advance (including engine sales area fees). Pets are allowed at this event but are not recommended. Those bringing pets must show proof of vaccinations and a permit. Owners are responsible for cleaning up their pets’ waste and must ensure they are on a 6-foot leash and under their control at all times. Vehicles are not permitted to move faster than walking pace on the property. No fireworks are permitted anywhere on the property.
