Olympian Ben Davison added to rowing program

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Emily Gackowskiwho has been the Buckeyes’ head coach since his freshman year, continues to build a world-class coaching staff with the hiring of U.S. Olympian Ben Davison as an assistant coach.

“Ben was the perfect addition to this new staff,” said Gackowski. “His experience as an athlete is incredible and he brings a perspective to our team that few others have. Our coaching philosophies mesh well and I think our student-athletes will really enjoy learning from him. Having an Olympian on the staff is really great and we’re happy to have found Ben, but having a good human being with a great technical eye and a fantastic understanding of our sport is even better.”

Davison is a graduate of the University of Washington and was named PAC-12 Rowing Athlete of the Year during his time with the Huskies in 2019.
He is a two-time Olympian with Team USA. He recently competed at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, finishing fourth in the men’s double sculls. He competed at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, helping the United States to a fourth-place finish in the men’s eight.

Earlier this summer, Gackowski announced the hiring of former Buckeyes players Mandy Merritt (2011) and Bridget Schodorf (2018), as well as University of Minnesota graduate Mari Sundbo, as assistant coaches.

Another assistant is to be hired in the near future.
