On Friday, temperatures will rise to over 105 degrees. Storms are also possible

MERIDIAN, Miss (WTOK) –

Heat warnings are in effect for Friday as the infamous “heat dome” continues to impact and dry out our area. In our area, we can expect heat index values of over 105, but in some areas, heat index values could be over 110. It’s no surprise that the heat is dangerous, so continue to take heat precautions: https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat

There will be opportunities to take a break from Friday’s heat in the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will get the showers, but some will. When the rain reaches you, expect heavy rain, gusty winds and possibly lightning.

Weekend outlook

On Saturday, the heat dome will move further west of our region. This will allow disturbances in the upper atmosphere to move across our area and increase the chance of rain. The best time for showers on Saturday will be in the afternoon and evening. However, some forecast models indicate an approaching storm area that could increase the likelihood of damaging wind gusts. For this reason, there is only a slight risk of severe storms Saturday afternoon. So make sure you keep an eye on the weather and check for severe weather warnings. Before the rain reaches you, highs will be around 35 degrees.

A cold front will cross the area on Sunday. Highs will reach the upper 90s, heat indexes will be back above 105 degrees, and there could be some scattered showers as well. Behind that, however… pleasant conditions will return to the area. Dew points will drop into the 60s, so it won’t be as muggy. Mornings will start in the mid 60s (nice), and afternoon highs will hover around the seasonable low 90s early next week. There will also be plenty of sunshine to enjoy!
