One dead in shooting at Long Branch station

LONG BRANCH – Authorities say a shooting on the NJ Transit station platform Monday evening left one person dead.

At 7:39 p.m., Long Branch police responded to a report of a shooting victim at the NJ Transit Long Branch Station, said Christopher Swendeman, spokesman for the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim on the platform who was transported to a local hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m.

According to the NJ Transit website, a train was scheduled to arrive at Long Branch station at 7:41 p.m.

Authorities did not release the victim’s name or hometown or provide any other information about the shooting.

The incident is being jointly investigated by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau, the New Jersey Transit Police and the Long Branch Police Department, Swendeman said.
