(ONE PIECE Card Game) The Black Luffy Deck’s window to metagame relevance may have just opened

ONE PIECE Card Game Black Luffy Deck

Aside from a brief window of metagame viability between September and November 2023, the Black Luffy deck hasn’t made much of an impression in ONE PIECE Card Game tournaments so far. However, that may soon change – the recent ban of the Enies Lobby card from Pillars of Strength (OP-03) has dealt a major blow to the Black Lucci deck, potentially opening the door for other black decks to make a step forward.

strategy

The main idea behind this deck is to increase the cost of characters up to 8, thereby activating the effects of certain cards whose effects are dependent on costs. The key cards of this deck that increase character costs are three cards from the 3D2Y (ST-14) Starter Deck: the deck’s titular Monkey D. Luffy card, which is its leader card, as well as the I Have My Crew!! and Thousand Sunny cards. As long as a character’s cost on the field has been increased to 8, the deck’s leader card effectively has a power of 6000, allowing it to deal heavy damage while making it easier to fend off opposing attacks.

Certain character cards that cost 8 and thus immediately activate the deck’s cost-based effects are Sabo from 500 Years in the Future (OP-07) and Issho from Pillars of Strength (OP-03). Sabo shifts the playing field in the player’s favor by knocking out two opposing characters. Issho, on the other hand, is primarily a disruption card; it allows the player to destroy two of the opponent’s cards in their hand if they have at least six cards. It also reduces all opposing character costs by 3.

Three other cost reduction cards in this deck are from Paramount War (OP-02): Tsuru, Kuzan, and Ice Age. These cards are typically used to bring opposing characters within KO range. When Kuzan is played, the player can also draw a card.

Price

The total price of all cards in the Black Luffy deck is at least 30,080 JPY (~207 USD).
