One UI 6.1.1 simplifies the use of apps via links to Windows

Link to Windows is one aspect of Android that is surprisingly still a hidden gem – it’s shocking how few people I’ve met know about it. Since I discovered how convenient it is to connect my Android device to my Windows laptop, I’ve never looked back.

While it’s great to be able to receive notifications on my PC and even view my gallery, I rarely use one of the most important aspects of Link to Windows, which is the ability to stream apps, as you have to ask permission on your phone every time. One UI 6.1.1 will soon bring a groundbreaking change in this regard.

When I’m busy at work, I like to keep my phone away from me to avoid any distractions it might cause in my workspace. Sometimes it might be on its wireless charger and I don’t want to disturb it. With Link to Windows, I can get notifications from apps and even see when people call me, so I really can’t miss anything important that’s happening.

However, I wish it were easier to stream apps from your Android phone to your PC when Link to Windows allows it. It’s already pretty easy to do, but every app you open requires you to accept your Android device’s permission. If you have to reach for your device anyway, it kind of defeats the purpose of the convenience this feature brings.

Thankfully, that’s going to change very soon once One UI 6.1.1 is available to us. According to Android Authority, you won’t have to tap the “Launch Now” notification on your phone every time you try to stream an app via Link to Windows. This issue started to appear due to a change in Android 14, but it seems that with One UI 6.1.1, a workaround has been implemented to make things more convenient.

I already have access to it on my Galaxy S22 Ultra with One UI 6.1

Interestingly, despite the original report, I tried to test things out to provide you all with a screenshot of how things normally look when I try to stream an app via Link to Windows, and the pop-up notification was noticeably different. Unfortunately, it’s the same UI that the folks at Android Authority are showing off with their Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 running One UI 6.1.1.

To clarify, my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is running One UI 6.1 and all my apps are up to date, including the Link to Windows app. That might mean you don’t actually need One UI 6.1.1 to benefit from this big change. However, I don’t have access to any other Galaxy devices to test my theory with.

If this sounds like you and you use Link to Windows frequently, how about letting me know if you can access this new change from One UI 6.1 or older?
