SOMERS POINT – Shore Medical Center has announced that Donna Byrnes, RN-BC, ONC, a nurse practitioner in the Advanced Spine and Orthopedic Institute, has been named Guardian Angel of the Month for August based on her passionate and exceptional patient care.
Shore has created the Guardian Angel program to allow community members to say “thank you” to a special Shore caregiver by making a donation to the medical center on their behalf.
Byrnes began her career at Shore Medical Center in 2003 and has worked as a nurse in the ASOI department since then. In her role, she cares for patients recovering from spinal and orthopedic surgeries, as well as strokes.
“Donna coordinates and provides excellent patient care, including educating patients about their health conditions,” said Chief Nurse Elaine Toolsie. “In addition, she provides emotional support to her patients and their families during stressful times.”
A patient recently made a Guardian Angel donation to the medical center in Byrnes’ name and said this about her: “Coming to the emergency room as a non-clinical person with unusual and frightening symptoms was very scary. Then being admitted was very unsettling. I am so grateful to Donna, my nurse, she was so attentive, calm and patient. It was also very reassuring that she took the time to answer my questions and give me explanations, which helped put my mind at ease. Thank you, Donna!”
Byrnes lives in Egg Harbor Township and enjoys reading, traveling, crocheting, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Shore Medical Center’s Guardian Angel program provides patients and families with the opportunity to recognize anyone at Shore who makes a difference in their care or experience. Guardian Angels are recognized among their peers and receive a Guardian Angel pin at Shore’s annual pin ceremony.
