Imagine you are sitting comfortably in your premium economy seat on a long-haul flight and suddenly someone asks you to switch seats so they can be with their new spouse.

This is what happened to one traveler when a newlywed asked to swap his comfortable seat for an economy seat next to his wife.

Let’s delve into the story.

I flew from Melbourne to Dubai.

I paid for a Premium Economy seat because the flight is 14 hours and I want to be comfortable.

The person in the seat next to me had been upgraded and asked if I could switch seats with his wife as they had just gotten married and were on their honeymoon.

How sweet.

I congratulated him on his wedding and asked where his wife was sitting.

He pointed to the back of the plane. “In economy class.”

I declined a seat change.

He asked if there was any way to convince me. I offered him a change if he paid the difference between the seats.

That’s a considerable sum. I was lucky and was able to get mine at a reasonable price. It would have only cost him AU$1,000.

What a deal.

He said they had a limited budget for their honeymoon. I congratulated him again and put in my earplugs.

He muttered that I was a *******.

I said he was an idiot for accepting the upgrade instead of sitting with his wife or giving it to her.

Just.

I told my wife about the incident and she says I should have been nice.

By the way, she hates flying economy class, so I know she wouldn’t have switched.

When a premium economy seat for lovebirds becomes a bargaining chip, opinions run high… especially among Reddit users.

This person says that the groom who asked for the seat was definitely the AH.

This person agrees – this guy is such an idiot.

Honeymoon or not, when it comes to seat allocation on an airplane, each passenger is on their own.

Apparently.
