Drake Mayes’ impressive preseason came to an end on Sunday.
The New England Patriots’ rookie quarterback completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 passing yards and one touchdown, and also gained 17 yards on three rushing attempts against the Washington Commanders.
After another good game from Maye to close out the preseason, NFL fans were full of praise for the No. 3 overall pick.

I’ve seen enough. Don’t let him play so much tonight that he gets hurt. #DrakeMaye

Drake May:
Minimal reps with 1s throughout camp, first series: gets a bad snap from the shotgun and gets pushed back into his own end zone, stays in position in the pocket, rushes for a first down on third down (doesn’t slide) and gets it, drives the ball down the field, finds Kevin Harris for the first TD.

Drake Maye just clearly gets it. He manages space in the pocket and on his throws downfield and between coverage levels so well.
He’ll make some stupid mistakes every time he starts (and probably throughout his career), but it’s worth it because he’s capable of something.
After the final preseason game on Sunday, Maye finished the preseason with 192 passing yards and a touchdown despite playing only limited hours in three games.
The North Carolina product looked ready for the NFL when he first faced professional competition, but the question now is whether he can help the Patriots turn things around in his first season.
While Maye put on another solid performance, his QB1 competitor Jacoby Brissett had to leave the game early due to a shoulder injury. The severity of that injury is still unclear, but if he does have to miss one day, it likely means Maye will be the starter from the beginning.
