PharmD students in the spotlight | School of Pharmacy

A little about me:

I am originally from Gretna, NE and graduated from Gretna High School in 2018. I received my bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College and graduated in May 2022. I will graduate from UNMC in May 2025. I am engaged to a NE police officer and am planning my wedding for October 2025. I work as an intern at Consonus Pharmacy in Gretna and started as a porter in 2017.

Why did you choose the College of Pharmacy’s PharmD program?

I started working at Consonus Pharmacy in Gretna during high school and decided to pursue pharmacy as a career. I was accepted into the Rhop in Wayne and being at UNMC confirmed that I made the right choice.

What activities/research are you involved in?

  • APhA-ASP, former chairman of Operation Immunization and member of Operation Sud
  • RPSA
  • KE, former President
  • AIG (Aging Interprofessional Group), former co-leader

What was your best experience during your studies here?

I have loved studying here in the study halls and enjoyed the support of my classmates, freshmen and sophomores, and the Dean’s Office staff. As President of KE, I have been able to build more relationships between my fellow students and the community. It has been an amazing experience to see KE grow through our efforts!

What are your plans after graduation and have they changed since starting the program?

I could see myself staying at Consonus Pharmacy as I enjoy the work there, but I’ve tried not to limit myself to what I’ve always known about pharmacy. I’m looking into the possibility of a residency but I’m not sure I need one if I’m not going for a hospital-focused job. Still undecided as of July 2024!

What advice would you give to a student considering studying at the UNMC College of Pharmacy?

Be open to new experiences and possible friendships. Don’t be afraid to get involved, but make sure you can say “no” if you feel like you’re focusing too much on work. The four years will fly by and you’ll learn so much about pharmacy and yourself!
