Phillies bats hit two things in Atlanta’s series loss: Jack and Shit

The Phillies lost 3-2 to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night, losing the road series two games to one.

Their division lead has shrunk to six games and they are in Kansas City to start a weekend series before returning home next week to play the Astros and Braves.

The story of this series revolved around the Phillies’ hitting power, or lack thereof. They had two problems: they had nothing and nobody, and then they left town. Here’s how the hitters fared in the three games:

  • Kyle Schwarber: 1-10, one RBI, two walks, seven strikeouts
  • Trea Turner: 0-11, one RBI, one strikeout
  • Bryce Harper: 1-12, six strikeouts
  • Alec Bohm: 2-8
  • Nick Castellanos: 1-11, one RBI, three strikeouts
  • Bryson Stott: 1-9, three strikeouts
  • JT Realmuto: 2-6, two RBI, one strikeout
  • Brandon Marsh: 0-5, one RBI, one walk, five strikeouts
  • Johan Rojas: 1-7, three strikeouts
  • Weston Wilson: 2-6, three strikeouts
  • Edmundo Sosa: 1-2
  • Cal Stevenson: a walk

They were 5-32 in game one, 5-28 in game two and 3-29 in game three, good for a nice 13 for 89 and a .146 average. The six RBI included two sacrifice flies, a ground out to shortstop, a fielder’s choice, a Realmuto double and a Realmuto single. There was a bit of positivity in Game 2, when they eked out a win with small ball and good micromanagement from Rob Thomson, and it was one of those “find a way” victories you need in the playoffs. But Thursday night was a big wet fart and mood killer. Good morning.
