Pick-up truck catches fire at Island Beach State Park

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK – A pickup truck caught fire at Island Beach State Park on Saturday, requiring emergency crews to cross the beach to extinguish the flames.

According to a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Agency, there were no injuries in the fire.

The vehicle fire occurred south of the state park’s beach entrance A23, which is designated for mobile sport fishing. This is the park’s southernmost access point for mobile vehicles and is located near Barnegat Inlet. This area of the park is primarily used by surf fishermen.

State Park Police were dispatched to the scene of the fire at around 6:30 p.m. The Seaside Park Fire Department was also on site and extinguished the fire. The A23 entrance, which is a permit for sport fishing vessels, was briefly closed while the fire was being extinguished, but the beach itself was not evacuated.

More: In New Jersey, there will be no sunset after 8 p.m. until May 2025

Maintenance crews from Island Beach State Park have removed the vehicle from the beach. The cause of the fire is unknown, the spokesman said.

Sculpted by storms and tides, Island Beach State Park is a narrow barrier island stretching 10 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. It is one of the last significant remnants of a barrier island ecosystem in New Jersey.
