MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – With the official opening and enrollment of a full class of 45 students, the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) adult education program at Polaris Career Center is ready to launch.
The partnership between Polaris and Southwest General Health Center will produce highly qualified LPNs and hopefully fill a workforce gap for years to come.
During the 11-month program, students receive 788 hours of classroom instruction, 146 hours of field experience, and 166 hours of clinical rotations. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 13, Superintendent Bob Timmons stood alongside Bill Young, President and CEO of SGHC, and many others who were instrumental in making the LPN program a reality.
“There’s no way this would be possible without Southwest General,” Timmons told the crowd. “We’re so excited. This partnership makes this a unique program.”
Young also praised the collaboration with Polaris.
“It’s exciting to see them developing the LPN program,” Young told cleveland.com. “We know there’s a shortage of nurses across the country, and this helps address that.”
“We are very pleased with our partnership. You have done a great job.”
