Police in Missouri: Mother and daughter killed while leaving a Drake concert because driver ignored a red light

A mother and daughter attending a Drake and J. Cole co-headlining concert in Missouri were struck and killed near the venue in St. Louis, according to police and news reports.

The fatal accident reportedly occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, a few blocks from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

The concert had just ended when a 22-year-old Jeep driver was speeding and ignoring red lights, police told KSDK. The driver struck another vehicle, causing the Jeep to turn clockwise and hit two pedestrians in the crosswalk.

A woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene, police told KTVI. Her daughter, who was in her 20s, died at the hospital.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, officials have not yet identified the mother and daughter, but said they were visiting from Chicago to attend the concert.

According to KMOV, four other people were injured in the accident. Among the injured was the driver, who was taken to hospital.

“It’s sad and unfortunate that something like this would happen downtown considering our city has a lot of events and things that people enjoy going to and coming to,” Christy Davis, who works at a nearby restaurant, told KMOV.

The accident came nearly a year after 17-year-old Janae Edmondson was struck by a car in downtown St. Louis, McClatchy News reported. Edmondson, who was in town from Tennessee for a volleyball tournament, had to have her legs amputated.

“It’s eye-opening and terrifying and really hits you,” Linda Trevino, who also works downtown, told KTVI about Wednesday’s accident.
