Police: Sligo woman jailed for forging cheques to pay for hair care and products

SLIGO, Pennsylvania (EYT) – Clarion-based state police say a local woman is behind bars for allegedly forging a check in Sligo County.

Court records show that PSP Clarion filed criminal charges against 58-year-old Susanne Carol Andreof Sligo, in the office of District Judge Jeffrey Miller on Wednesday, August 7.

According to a criminal complaint, PSP Clarion was dispatched to a hair salon on Madison Street in Sligo Borough, Clarion County, on Wednesday, August 7, to report a check fraud.

The salon owner reported Susanne André had a hair appointment on July 17 and paid for $180.00 worth of hair treatments and products. Andre paid with a check from a local bank account belonging to two known individuals, the complaint states.

The salon owner stated that Andre wrote the check in front of her and signed it “S. (victim’s name) Andre,” the complaint states.

The salon owner further reported that the check was returned to the business by the bank because it was made out to a closed account. The business must pay $180.00 for its services and $30.00 in bad check fees from the bank, the complaint states.

PSP Clarion interviewed the victim, one of the account holders, who stated that Andre lived in his apartment, but she never received checks from him or the other account holder on the local bank checking account, the complaint states.

The victim believed Andre had stolen the checks from the house. He contacted the other account holder and she said she never gave him any checks or permission to use her account, the complaint states.

During an interview with police, Andre admitted to taking the check from the local bank and writing it to the salon for $180.00. She also admitted to signing her name and the victim’s name on the check, the charges state.

Andre was arraigned on Wednesday, August 7, at 9:00 p.m. before District Judge Jarah Lee Heeter on the following charges:

  • Forgery of documents – unauthorized written act, criminal offence 2
  • Theft by unauthorized expropriation – movable property, misdemeanor 2
  • Receiving stolen goods, offense 2
  • Theft by deception – false impression, offense 2
  • Bad Checks, Summary

Since she was unable to raise the $5,000.00 bail, she was placed in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, at 1:30 p.m., with Judge Heeter presiding.
