Poll: Is it better for the Mystics to tank or compete in 2024?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of WNBA and NBA fans. All year long, we ask the most connected Washington Mystics Fans and supporters across the country. Register here to participate in the weekly surveys sent by email.

The Washington Mystics appear to be a 2024 lottery pick and were the worst team in the WNBA standings, but after an 0-12 start, they’ve since gone 8-10 and have won two games in a row.

With ten games left in the season, it’s not out of the question that the Mystics could make the 2024 WNBA playoffs. That would, however, eliminate them from the lottery, where UConn guard Paige Bueckers is widely considered the top pick. She will likely be a new franchise player for any team she plays for.

Even if the Mystics don’t draft her, all hope is not lost that she can compete for championships in the long term. The WNBA will likely have a new CBA in 2026, and nearly every star in the league will be a free agent. Someone decent will wear a Mystics uniform. But will that decent player also be one who can be a blockbuster, like Elena Delle Donne was from 2017 to 2023?

Our only poll question is: Do you think the Mystics’ long-term future is better if they lose in the 2025 WNBA Draft or if they just get a shot at the 2024 WNBA Playoffs? Let us know by VOTING! Then comment below.
