Pop-up clinic brings free healthcare to Bennington community

BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A mobile dental and eye clinic is coming to Bennington to provide free health care to locals.

Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit that travels the country hosting impromptu clinics, is holding a two-day clinic this weekend at Mount Anthony Union Middle School in Bennington.

All medical clinic services are free of charge and patients do not need to present any ID or insurance to receive medical assistance.

Brad Sands of the clinic says he has been approached by Bennington residents who said others might need medical help.

“We were invited. We’re not out there on our own. There was a coalition of community members who saw a gap in care in this community and wanted to bring us there. They invited us and we obliged,” said Brad Sands, coordinator of the Remote Area Medical Clinic. “It’s incredible to be able to travel around and really help people. Some people have been walking around with toothache for three to five years. Maybe they can’t afford the treatment, maybe they don’t have access to it. And that’s where we come in. We’re here to fill that gap and relieve pain and suffering.”

The clinic says it will treat as many patients as possible on Saturday before closing at noon on Sunday.
