Popcaan demands that Kendrick Lamar’s song be taken down out of loyalty to Drake

Popcaan pledged his loyalty to Drake when he demanded that a Kendrick Lamar song be taken down. In an interview with Link-Up TVPopcaan was in the middle of talking about his career when suddenly a K. Dot song started blaring in the background. The dancehall artist is visibly annoyed by the presence of the song and begins to question why his music is being played in his presence.

The interviewer points out that someone in the building is playing music over the “surround sound upstairs,” which Pop is not very happy to hear. “I don’t care. I don’t want to hear that. Change the channel,” he replied incredulously. “What? If that’s on, skip the carnage! I don’t want to hear that… Change the channel!”

Popcaan then went into detail about his disdain for Lamar’s music, citing his loyalty to Drake and his OVO collective. At one point he even rolled up his sleeve and showed off his OVO tattoo on his arm. He explained that even though he’s now independent, he’s still an avid supporter and friend of Drizzy.

“I don’t know why they play Kendrick Lamar in your game. I don’t want to hear about Kendrick Lamar, ni**a,” he continued. “I’ve always been independent and OVO has always done it that way. Yeah, loyalty is my thing.”

The dancehall superstar has been associated with OVO since 2016 before the singer officially joined the label in 2018. However, in 2023, he said Crack Magazine that he was ready to become a free agent, and admitted he had a love/hate relationship with October’s Very Own because of business decisions. “I have so much music, (but) the label can be weird sometimes. I love the label, but I don’t like it,” he revealed to the outlet. “But I’ll be independent soon.”
