Popcaan disses Kendrick over Drake’s loyalty

In a recent interview with Link Up TV, dancehall artist Popcaan made it clear who he is loyal to – by turning off a Kendrick Lamar song that was playing in the background. While discussing his career, Popcaan was interrupted by an unexpected Kendrick track blaring from the speakers. The sudden appearance of Lamar’s music seemed to irritate the Jamaican star, who immediately asked why it was playing.

When the interviewer told him the song was coming from “surround sound upstairs,” Popcaan’s frustration was palpable. He quickly demanded that the song be turned off, saying, “I don’t care. I don’t want to hear that. Change the channel. What? If that’s on, skip the carnage! I don’t want to hear that… Change the channel!”

Popcaan’s reaction wasn’t just about his personal music preferences – it was a demonstration of his loyalty to Drake and his OVO crew. To make that clear, Popcaan rolled up his sleeve and revealed an OVO tattoo, underscoring his commitment to the collective. Although he recently became an independent artist, Popcaan emphasized his continued support for Drake. “I don’t know why the bomb made her play Kendrick Lamar on your game. I don’t wanna hear no Kendrick Lamar, ni**a,” he said. “I’ve always been independent, and OVO did the same. Yeah, loyalty is my thing.”

Popcaan has been associated with OVO since 2016 and officially signed with the label in 2018. However, in 2023, he was ready to move on and become a free agent, as he told Crack Magazine. He expressed mixed feelings about the label, stating, “I have so much music, (but) the label can be weird sometimes. I love the label, but I don’t like it. But I’ll be independent soon.” Despite stepping away from the label, Popcaan remains a loyal supporter of Drake and OVO, making it clear that his commitment runs deep.
