So how does Kia plan to make the Carens affordable? It plans to launch new base variants of the Carens. The brand has already approved the new variants as M-Drive and P-Drive. With the P-Drive, Kia has even approved a 5-seater option which could be a game-changer. Currently, the premium variant of the Carens starts at Rs 12.17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). So with the new variants, the Carens could start under the Rs 10 lakh mark. This will help Kia take on the Maruti Ertiga.
New gearbox
Kia is not only revamping the new base variant, but also the transmission options. Kia has approved the diesel iMT option for the Kia Carens. Rumours say that Kia is planning to replace the diesel manual transmission with a diesel iMT on all its models. It would also be the first time that the iMT will be introduced on the Kia Carens. Surprisingly, Kia is not offering the iMT on the petrol variants of the Carens.

Kia has already approved the new variants and the new transmission, so the launch of these new Carens variants could be imminent. We expect the launch to be in late March or sometime in April.
