Preview of the cross country season in Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio men’s and women’s cross country teams lace up their shoes Friday for their first meet of the season.

Ohio kicks off its season on August 30th with the Tommy Evans Invitational, hosted by Akron at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio. Last season the women finished second and the men seventh. It will be an exciting race.

From there, the Bobcats will compete in the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sept. 20 and the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky on Oct. 4. The Bobcats last competed in the Live in Lou Classic in 2021.

Ohio has one more tournament in October before competing in the Mid-American Conference Championships the first week of November. The final game of the regular season will be at the Bradley Pink Invitational, hosted by Bradley in Peoria, Illinois.

The MAC Championship will be held on November 2nd in Muncie, Indiana. The women finished third last season and the men finished seventh. Senior Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) led Ohio with a third-place finish in the women’s race. Hagey was also named to the First-Team All-MAC. Junior Leila Boussandra (Worthington, Ohio) and Senior Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) also both finished in the top 15.

Among Ohio’s 16 veterans on the women’s side, 13 are newcomers. There are also a lot of returnees on the men’s side, 17 to be exact, and three newcomers joining the squad. There’s plenty of talent for everyone.

Keep an eye on what the Bobcats have in store this season starting Friday.
