Qmmunity: Queer Events of the Week: I’m still thinking about a better column for this week, so here are some cool events columns instead

I wake up from a dream in which I wrote a good column

I dreamed that this column was the best I’d ever written – people said, wow! This is the Peak Quolumn, aka the Queer Column. However, like most dreams, it disappeared when I woke up. Instead, this will be a short column, mainly to direct you to the events list below. Maybe next week I’ll bring my sleeping self’s ambition into the real world – for now, it’s still dormant. LOL.

Boyz of Austin: Beach Boyz

Thursday, 29th, Elysium

Not only will you experience the fun seaside stylez of your favorite Boyz, but also new cast members Trey Devine, Danté, Larry Stylinson and Mx. Cuntstrood in their first performances with this gender-diverse drag crew.

Rave at the end of summer

Friday, 30th, Cheer Up Charlies

DJ Boyfriend ends this hot season with a Middle School Dance Party Rave featuring sets from DJs Lavender Thug, Ruby Knight, and the host himself. Say goodbye to the summer of Brat/Challengers/“Pink Pony Club”!

Share “Queen Singles Happy Hour” with your friends. Save “Queen Singles Happy Hour” to your collection.

Saturday 31st, Wanderlust Wine Co.

Local Queer ATX is teaming up with Jigsaw Dating to host the mixer maker’s first LGBTQ-exclusive event, providing a safe place to meet people, with personalized conversation cards and Jigsaw’s “signature icebreaker bingo.”

Enjoying gender diversity

Saturday, 31. 506 Congress

2Spirit Queer, Downtown Austin Alliance, Khush ATX, and Local Queer ATX are collaborating on this space activation in Downtown Austin. Enjoy drag, dance, an open mic, food, and a name/gender transition workshop—all for free.

Currently in use

Saturday, 31st, Hideaway Kitchen & Bar

Host Tiffany Epiphany brings local drag talent for this dinner and show style evening and ensures a wonderful time.

The place

Sunday 1st, rain on 4th

Host Diamond Dior Davenport brings twerk-offs, drag, mini kiki balls and more to this RnB and hip hop party right in the heart of gay ATX.

Lesbian Night

Sunday 1, Cheer Up Charlies

Sunday night the Sapphics take off: Winona Grindr takes over the turntables at Chups from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Joker’s Wild

Monday 2, Kick Butt Coffee

Put on your pajamas and watch the show, which I definitely misheard as “Joker’s Mild.” But there is nothing mild about what the Monday Night Jammie Jam variety show has to offer: local artists and out-of-town talent offer the best in burlesque and more.

Reading the rainbow

Wednesday, 4th, Twin Oaks Library Branch

Fast-track the James Baldwin classic Go Tell It on the Mountain so you, too, can join the Austin Public Library’s LGBTQIA+ book club. If you can’t attend in person, there’s a virtual option.

With a wink

Thursday, 5th, Swan Dive

Every first Thursday, host Ivy Le and special guests open the stage to comedians who either need a safe space as queer comedians or need to practice their LGBTQ material to make sure it doesn’t have the stench of homophobia. No matter how you get to this open mic for queer comedy, you’re in for a good time.

ATX Vogue Nights

Thursday, 5th, Swan Dive

Get a taste of the Central Texas ballroom scene at this monthly event from the houses of Juicy Couture and Lepore. Check out the category requirements beforehand: You don’t want to be caught looking silly on the dance floor, you know.
