Rain showers and thunderstorms return to the Mid-Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – It’s been a very dry week in the Mid-Ohio Valley, but that will change today. There have already been some isolated light showers this morning, and they’re expected to continue through the morning rush hour. However, most of the morning and most of the region will remain dry early in the day. There will be a chance of thunderstorms in the early afternoon. This will be primarily between noon and 3 p.m. After that, skies will return to mostly cloudy skies, with scattered showers. There will be a chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm late in the evening and overnight.

Of course, with the risk of thunderstorms comes the risk of localized flooding and gusty winds. These risks will be low overall but cannot be ruled out. Because the ground is so dry, there is a risk of runoff with any heavy downpour as the ground cannot absorb all the rain quickly, so watch out for puddles on roads and isolated flooding.

On Saturday, the risk of thunderstorms will increase again, but mainly in the afternoon hours. The best time for storms to move through the Mid-Ohio Valley is between 4 and 8 p.m. in the evening. Just like Friday, there is still a slight risk of gusty winds and localized flooding overall. Parkersburg Homecoming will be taking place all day Saturday, so keep an eye out for the risk of thunderstorms. Scattered showers and the potential for a clap or two of thunder will continue through Sunday and Monday. There is no threat of severe weather on any of these days. This is because a low pressure system will exit the Great Lakes on Sunday. Cooler air will move into the Mid-Ohio Valley from behind. And when we say cooler air, some may think it could get chilly. In fact, lows could drop below 10 degrees overnight Tuesday. Additionally, highs on Monday and Tuesday afternoon will only be in the low to high 75 degrees. The average high for mid-August is around 82 degrees, so it will be significantly cooler.
