Raytown teachers get better pay

RAYTOWN, Missouri (KCTV) – School starts in Raytown on August 21 for grades kindergarten through high school, and there is an added incentive for teachers to return to their classrooms.

The Raytown School District Board of Education approved a 4% raise for teachers, which went into effect in July, and increased teacher pay based on experience and length of training.

The district hopes this will help retain teachers; it currently has 650 certified teachers and a total staff of 1,400.

Mary Rigan is a special education teacher at New Trails Early Learning Center. She teaches children ages 3 to 5.

Rigan was also involved in negotiations with the school board for higher salaries.

“We want our students to succeed, and that means we need to attract and retain the best teachers,” Rigan said. “This shows that our school board and our administration value teachers and that we all want the same thing.”

Below is a list of salary scale for teachers in Raytown who work 181 days.

Another measure taken by the school board was to correct the salary freeze for teachers between 2010 and 2012. Teachers who worked in Raytown during those school years will get their two years of work experience back, which will also increase their salary this year.
