Renowned Scottish chef Tom Kitchin tells us his favorite cheap restaurant to visit when eating out in Scotland.

Previously, other famous chefs such as Lisa Goodwin-Allen and Tom Shepherd had presented Sky News their best “budget restaurants” across the UK.

Venues such as The Cedar Marlow in Buckinghamshire and Jun Jaow Thai in Devon were featured and praised for their “authenticity” and great selection.

The Scottish chef named the Fishmarket in Newhaven as his favourite budget restaurant.

The chef and owner of The Kitchin in Scotland’s capital recommends the restaurant as follows: “I really like The Fishmarket down by Newhaven Harbour in Edinburgh. They offer classic fish and chips that are incredibly well prepared and you can either enjoy them in the restaurant or take them away.”

The restaurant is also popular with customers on TripAdvisor and received 3.5/5 from 1102 reviews.

One visitor said: “Excellent all round. Freshly cooked haddock, sensational chips and super fast service from friendly staff. You won’t be disappointed.”

Another added: “This is my second time here and it is fabulous. I would never normally choose fish and chips but this was excellent.”

“The fish was meaty and the batter was light and crispy. The fries were nice and crispy. I went to another restaurant a few weeks ago, but it didn’t compare to this one. Plus, I didn’t have greasy lips, which is a huge plus.”

A third guest said: “Simply fantastic food, the monkfish curry was so tasty and the fish was cooked to perfection.”

“The scampi were wonderful and will definitely put you off buying a bag of scampi at the supermarket.

“The atmosphere was just perfect and so friendly.”
