Report: Chick-Fil-A and Wawa could open on Route 23 in Wayne

WAYNE, NJ — It’s been nearly seven years since Wayne Township officials approved a redevelopment request for a vacant lot on southbound Route 23, and now the property owner wants to locate two national franchises on the site.

As NorthJersey.com first reported, Galreh LLC’s latest plan calls for another Wawa supermarket and pump station next to a new Chick-fil-A — and on the same property as a planned apartment complex.

The 10-acre property at 1895 Route 23 is on the south side of the highway and borders the Pompton River. Wayne authorities approved Galreh LLC’s plans for the site back in September 2017 after neighbors raised concerns about potential impacts to the school system, flooding and traffic.

Galreh’s original proposal called for the construction of a five-story apartment building, a 12,800-square-foot building and a 262-seat restaurant.

Ten residents and the property owner of the nearby Wayne AutoMall Hyundai challenged the decision in court, but a Supreme Court judge upheld the panel’s approval.

The landowner has submitted documents to the municipality’s planning committee, but there is no date yet for when they could be discussed at a committee meeting.
