Report: Colts could soon sign veteran running back Dalvin Cook for a free agent visit

According to the Star-Telegram Clarence Hill, Jr.The Indianapolis Colts could get an experienced running back Dalvin Cook for a visit soon – after his recent stint as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys:

The 29-year-old veteran is a former four-time NFL Pro Bowler with the Minnesota Vikings and, in addition to his 47 rushing touchdowns, has also recorded 6,207 rushing yards on 1,349 carries (an average of 4.6 yards per game) and 1,872 receiving yards in 88 career games.

However, the seven-year NFL veteran will soon be thirty years old and is likely at the end of his playing career – should the right opportunity arise for him to actually extend it.

During 15 games (1 start) for the New York Jets last year, Cook had a very quiet 67 carries for a total of 214 rushing yards (3.2 ypc. avg.) – before being traded to the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs. In the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans, he had a total of 8 carries for a total of 23 rushing yards (including a 19-yard run on his first carry).

However, Cook is reportedly in great physical shape nowbut is the energy and acceleration that once made him one of the most feared running backs in football still there?

With top backup Zack Moss leaving as a free agent, the Colts are currently in a tight spot when it comes to running backs behind star workhorse Jonathan Taylor – especially since only Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are behind him on the active 53-man roster. Sermon is also recovering from a recent hamstring injury.

In the passing game, Cook has always been viewed as an asset during his outstanding playing career and could add some experienced pass-catcher/blocker players to the Colts’ running back room behind Taylor.

The question is, how much tread is left on the tires to really help the Colts backfield?
