Jennifer Lopez gave it her all in her second appearance with Ben Affleck.
In the wake of the ex-partners’ divorce, new reports have emerged about how hard the 55-year-old singer allegedly tried to make it work the second time around.
A source told People that Lopez “spent a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed.”
“The way she cared for him was almost childlike,” the insider added. “Friends constantly reminded her that she is not responsible for his feelings. He is very moody and gloomy at times. Jennifer appreciates life in a different way. She is very grateful for everything.”
The insider also claimed that Affleck, 52, suffered from “uncontrollable mood swings” that contributed to their split.
“The truth is there was a lot of love, but unfortunately Ben’s erratic mood swings were also evident, which he couldn’t hide from the press no matter how hard he tried,” the source admitted. “You could see his erratic behavior, the huge mood swings.”
The insider added that the “Air” director’s behavior would evolve from “incredibly cheerful and warm – the best light that ever came from him” to “the deepest, darkest behavior.”
“I think he wanted to send a message to the press,” they admitted.
“But when the mood swings and major ups and downs reveal pervasive toxicity, no one can help you – you have to help yourself,” the source continued.
“But I wouldn’t be so bold as to say there isn’t love – of course there is,” the insider concluded. “The world was rooting for them, but who he pretended to be and who he ended up being were two different people.”
The reports come a week after Lopez filed for divorce without a lawyer on the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony. The artist gave the date of separation as April 26.
The couple reportedly had not signed a prenuptial agreement. Lopez had not requested spousal support and had asked the judge to deny Affleck support.
Lopez and Affleck tied the knot at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas in July 2022 before saying “I do” for a second time the following month at Affleck’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia.
However, fans will remember that this is a second attempt for the former couple, who first attempted to build a romance in early 2000.
Affleck and Lopez began dating in 2002 and announced their separation in 2004. Both celebs married and had children with other people, but their flame rekindled in 2021.
After breaking off her first engagement, Lopez confessed that she felt like she was “dying” and fell into an 18-year “downward spiral.”
But their latest engagement was to be different: Affleck even had a special meaning engraved into her engagement ring, which is estimated to be worth “well over $5 million.”
“Here he wrote ‘not going anywhere’ because that’s how he signed his emails when we spoke again,” the “Atlas” actress told Apple Music One’s Zane Lowe in 2022 about her second engagement. “Like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.'”
The sparkling stone consists of an 8.5 carat radiant cut green diamond set on a platinum band. There are two half moon accent diamonds on either side of the green gemstone.
“It wasn’t anything special at all, but it was the most romantic thing I could have ever imagined… just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people promising to always be there for each other,” Lopez said of the proposal in her 2022 newsletter. “Green has always been my lucky color and it certainly always will be now.”
