Report on Thalia Mara Hall recommends repairing the air conditioning and removing the carpet

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – The City of Jackson has released a new report on Thalia Mara Hall after initial microbial activity was discovered at the facility.

In early August, the city was forced to close Thalia Mara Hall after growth was discovered as a result of a recent HVAC control malfunction at the facility.

The city commissioned the Center for Toxicology & Environmental Health (CTEH) to investigate, conduct laboratory analyses and evaluate all substances.

The Indoor Air Quality Assessment report recommended repairing the HVAC system and removing some carpeting. It also recommended cleaning carpets, hard surfaces, floors and upholstery.

In addition, a final investigation into air quality was requested.

Repairs to Thalia Mara Hall cost more than $4 million

City officials said they are committed to restoring Thalia Mara Hall and are working to secure funding for the project. The city recently received $1.5 million from the state.

Major events at Thalia Mara Hall were moved to the Mississippi Coliseum during the closure. The city plans to reopen Thalia Mara Hall once the problems are resolved. There is no current timeline for repairs.
