Blue Mountains City Council has commenced its citywide road repair and renewal program for the 2024-2025 financial year.
The program will involve extensive patching, resealing and pothole repair work in all towns and villages in the Blue Mountains.
Two teams of contractors will work with the council to support the accelerated repair programme, with work starting in August between Faulconbridge and Lapstone before moving to higher upland areas in the spring when the weather is warmer and more conducive to road repairs.
The works, valued at up to $3.2 million, are part of the Council’s annual Asset Works Program and are partly funded by the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery grant program.
The program will prioritize repairs that reduce risks to public safety, prevent further deterioration and failure, and maintain road functionality.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “I am pleased to announce the commencement of the Road Resurfacing and Repair Program this financial year. It includes a new series of works that will improve the safety of our local road network.”
“The council is committed to making significant improvements to the local road network over the next decade, including a programme of targeted drainage and road surfacing works to make the road network more climate resilient and prevent future deterioration.”
Following several natural disasters and damage to nearly a third of the city’s roads, $19 million worth of work was completed in 2022-23. In 2023-24, the council completed another $2.5 million worth of work.
